Tobago Cays (Jim Pantaleano) unleashed a decisive move by the half Saturday night en route to winning Yonkers Raceway’s $33,000 Open Handicap Pace.
Leaving from post 3, Tobago Cays was away fourth as Lucky Man (Larry Stalbaum) and Silent Swing (Brent Holland) played leapfrog on the lead. The former retook from the latter just after a 26.4 opening quarter-mile.

As the field approached the 55.3 intermission, Tobago Cays approached the leader. He went right on by Lucky Man, then took off to the tune of a 26.4 third quarter (1:22.2). Full Article

Golden Receiver led the field at every call and gamely hung on by a neck to capture the $110,500 Presidential Final on a blustery Saturday night at the Meadowlands Racetrack. 
Never headed in the three Presidential rounds, Golden Receiver held off late charges by Annieswesterncard and Blatantly Good to complete the series sweep in 1:49.1. The 7-year-old son of Village Jove, driven by Brian Sears, paid $3.00 to win the 10th race headliner. Full Article

NY Harness Tracks To Allow Cell Phones In Paddocks

Cell PhonesThe New York State Racing and Wagering Board on Wednesday adopted a new law that will allow cell-phone use in paddocks at harness racetracks. Cell phones have been allowed in Thoroughbred paddocks in New York.
The new rule will take effect in 45 days and will be implemented on a one-year trial basis.
The harness tracks will have to set aside designated areas to use cell phones and also post signs that tell people where those areas are.

Pena Drops Meadowlands Lawsuit

According to John Brennan on NorthJersey.com, Lou Pena’s lawsuit against the Meadowlands was dismissed in U.S. District Court earlier today.
Pena, who had sued to try to eliminate the ban on his racing at the Meadowlands that has been imposed on him by new track operator Jeff Gural, filed a “notice of voluntary dismissal without prejudice” on Wednesday.
It’s not immediately clear if Pena decided he couldn’t win the case, or if he and Gural reached some sort of truce. Full Article
