Outlaw went straight to the winners circle after taking the $13,500 4&5-Year-Old pace at Dover Downs over a ‘good’ track on a rainy Thursday, Feb. 16 while harness racing driver John Wagner became the 80th reinsman to record 5,000 career victories in North America.
With meet leading driver Corey Callahan in the bike, Outlaw was at his best behavior scoring a 1:58.2 triumph in the feature race. The win was the third straight and fourth in five lifetime starts for the Muscles Yankee-Ferrari Of owned by Dolly Callahan and Erica Hanley. Outlaws only setback came in mid January when he broke stride and finished distanced. Why Not Lindy (Tony Morgan) was second with Taste Of Paradise (Frank Milby) settling for third.
John Wagner’s milestone 5,000th victory came driving Lillian Petrone and Susan Camac’s Marong A, an 11-year-old altered son of SJ’s Photo-Callamar Belle to victory in 1:59.2 in a $7,500 Delaware Claiming trot. Allan Davis, who has come into his own this meet enjoying his finest season, Jim Morand and Corey Callahan, each won two races.
Monday through Thursday, racing begins at 4:30 p.m. There is no live racing on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday post time is now 1 p.m. Parking and admission are free. Reservations are suggested for the Winner’s Circle Restaurant 302-674-4600.
